The end of August is a time of nerves and excitement for children throughout the country as they await the results of their GCSE examinations, and this year it was no different for some of our children at AWW.
Having spent many long hours grappling with quadratic equations and literature analysis, our children and their teams were eagerly waiting to find out whether their hard work had paid off and they would achieve the results they deserved.
We were therefore delighted when results day on 24th August brought the news that all the children who had entered for their GCSE exams had passed, and had achieved the grades they needed to move on to further education.
The journey to entering and passing these examinations was not an easy one for these children, and the challenges that they overcame makes their achievement even greater. We are so proud of them!
One of our successful students explains what it meant to her to have the support of our talented Education Lead, Jamie, throughout the process:
“I’m really grateful for Jamie, who managed to enrol me for my GCSEs. She did everything she could, and I know she has gone out of her way to push and push for me to be able to sit the exams.
She never let me down. Even when I was at my lowest she was still determined to make sure I had a bright future”.
“If it wasn’t for Jamie, I wouldn’t have had those opportunities”. Moving somewhere like this is scary but I can really see the benefits now. Before I came here, I didn’t even picture myself having a future anymore, but now I do. Over the past couple of months, I’ve been filled with self-doubt and Jamie has helped me not only understand my work but also my anxieties around the exams. I’m now feeling much more positive about my future. Thank you, Jamie, for not putting too much pressure on me, for always listening and for not stopping until everyone listened to what I wanted!” We are so lucky to have an Education team at AWW who dedicate themselves tirelessly to helping each child identify and achieve their personal goals. Often this means working to re-engage a child with education when they feel let down by it, helping them to understand that they can achieve great things. Passing GCSE exams is something that many of our children would not have believed possible when they joined us, making their success even more rewarding. Jamie tells us: “I am so incredibly proud of our children who sat their GCSEs this year. What a phenomenal achievement despite the challenging circumstances they were all facing in the run-up to these pivotal exams. The resilience shown towards their future aspirations is a true testament to their characters and they should be so proud of their results. We are excited to see them start college this week and to follow them on the next stage of their journey. We wish them all the very best in their futures and can’t wait to see what they achieve next!” If you would like to join our talented team we would love to hear from you.
